The late famous master painter Wilmino Domond created this stunning original 20"x 24" vintage painting signed and dated in the lower right corner in 1951. This beautiful, naive masterpiece depicts a "cockfight" in rural Haiti. It belongs to a private collection in New Hampshire, where the painting will be shipped. Our gallery will issue a certificate of authenticity upon purchase.

Wilmino Domond was born in Jacmel in 1925 and passed away on April 16, 2006, making his work, especially his early pieces, very rare. He belongs to the second generation of Haitian painters. His cousin, the late old master of Haitian artist Castera Bazile, inspired him to enter the art world.

Stebich says of his work: "Brightness of color, with a preference for reds and oranges, and a love of pattern and design characterize Domond's work. The movements are stylized and distorted whenever he depicts motion, and the artist uses every opportunity to turn the form into a pattern with little elaboration of space. Although they are mainly flat, his paintings nevertheless transmit a rhythm and vibrancy expressing this artist's joy of life."

Wilmino Domond's work belongs to the permanent collections of the Figge Museum of Art in Iowa and the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Connecticut.
