Renowned Haitian artist Gesner Abelard signed this original vintage 24"x16" oil painting on board in the lower left corner. It is in good condition, unframed, and belongs to a private collector in the Dominican Republic, from whom it will be shipped. Our gallery will issue a certificate of authenticity upon purchase.

Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on February 22, 1922, Gesner Abelard was a Haitian painter and sculptor. Abelard began life as a mechanic, then studied painting and sculpture at the Industrial School of Port-au-Prince under the painter Humberman Charles. He became a member of the Haitian Centre d'Art in 1948. In 1949, he received a bronze medal at the International Exposition celebrating the bicentennial of Port-au-Prince. His favorite subjects are birds, trees, religious scenes, and scenes of Haitian life in a naive/primitive style. Abelard is believed to be deceased. His art is mentioned in major Haitian art books.
