Calixte Henri was born in 1933 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and died in April 2010. He studied with Philome Obin at the Centre d'Art. He evolved from impressionism to cubism, with strong influence from Braque, while maintaining Haitian subjects. He used to paint using the palette. Calixte Henri "uses a monochrome style with a preference for greens, pinks or blues," Gerald Alexis-in Peintres Haitiens. The most significant Haitian book about Haitian art worldwide mentions Calixte Henry's artwork.
