Description
The artist himself signs this original self-portrait of the famous Haitian master Philome Obin. This 16 "x20" painting on board titled "Le Celebre Peintre Philome Obin & Ses Enfants" completes your Haitian art masters collection!
Tanya Brooks, who had art galleries in Palm Beach and Beverly Hills in the 1970s, traveled through Haiti to get to know artists. She commissioned Philome Obin to paint a self-portrait. He sent it to her in the crate, which now frames the 16x20" painting on board. She was amused and pleasantly surprised that his self-portrait included his family. The picture is in perfect condition. It has been in the Brooks family since it arrived in the States.
About this artist
About this artist
Philome Obin was born in Limbe in 1891 and died in Cap Haitian in 1986. He was self-taught and was one of the first Haitian artists who marveled the world with his naive art. His art is referred in all major books on Haitian art and mentioned by many art critics internationally. "Obin's concerns with precision and the respect of reality injects a measure of coldness into his narrative works," says Gerald Alexis in his book "Peintres Haitiens." Get the Book Now!
