Yannick Jean, a Haitian abstract female painter, decorator, novelist, and poet, was born on May 10, 1946, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In her abstract paintings, Yannick Jean depicts the condition of women in Haiti. Being raised with well-off parents but a problematic childhood, Yanick Jean was among a group of intellectuals in Port au Prince. In 1968, she participated in the beginnings of the adventures of the theatrical troupe of exiles in New York, the Kouidor troupe. She contributes to the realization of certain stage sets. She lives in the United States with her husband, playwright Syto Cavé.
