Collection: Franklin Latortue (Haitian, 1942-2012)
Franklin Latortue (older brother of well-known Philton Latortue) was born on November 12, 1942, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He attended both Casernes Dessalines Grade School and Toussaint Louverture High School. He came to the Centre d’Art in 1961. In 1965 he entered the Academie des Beaux-Arts, where he worked under Professors Georges Ramponeau and Montagutelli. In 1969 he left for New York and was in an exhibit sponsored by Columbia University. (Haiti Voodoo Kingdom to Modern Riviera by John Allen Franciscus, 1980). Franklin was best known for his jungle scenes in a primitive style. He passed in 2012.
